Condor is a German leisure carrier covered by EU261. If your Condor flight was delayed or canceled, here is how to claim compensation and what to do if Condor refuses.
Does EU261 Apply to Condor Flights?
Yes. Condor Flugdienst GmbH is a German carrier based in Frankfurt, which makes it an EU carrier subject to EU261/2004. EU261 applies to all Condor flights departing from EU airports and to Condor flights departing non-EU airports when arriving at EU airports.
Coverage: Any Condor flight departing from a German or other EU airport is covered. Condor's leisure routes to the Caribbean, Mexico, and North America departing from Germany are fully covered by EU261.
For the full EU261 eligibility framework, see the EU261 rights guide.
Compensation Amounts for Condor Delays
EU261 compensation for delays of 3+ hours at the final destination:
- ›
250 euros: flights under 1,500 km
- ›
400 euros: flights 1,500 km to 3,500 km
- ›
600 euros: flights over 3,500 km
Condor operates many long-haul leisure routes from Frankfurt, Düsseldorf, and Munich to destinations over 3,500 km away. Most transatlantic Condor delays qualify for the 600 euro tier if arrival is 3+ hours late.
Condor's History of Financial Difficulties
Condor went through significant financial difficulty in 2019 following the collapse of its parent company Thomas Cook. It was acquired by Attestor Capital in 2021 and has since stabilized. If you have a claim from a pre-acquisition disruption, the current legal entity may argue it does not inherit historical liabilities.
For disruptions on or after the 2021 acquisition, Condor Flugdienst GmbH is the responsible entity. File claims directly with Condor's customer service department citing EU261/2004.
Note: Condor does not operate flights year-round on all routes. Check whether your flight was a seasonal charter or a scheduled service, as the EU261 rules apply equally to both.
How to File a Condor EU261 Claim
File your claim through Condor's customer service portal or by email to their customer relations team. Include:
- ›
Your booking confirmation and flight details
- ›
The actual delay duration at your final destination
- ›
A citation of EU261/2004 Article 7 (compensation) and Article 5 (cancellations)
If Condor refuses or does not respond within 8 weeks, escalate to the German Luftfahrt-Bundesamt (LBA), which is the German national enforcement body for EU261. You can also use TravelStacks to handle the filing and escalation at 25%.
Extraordinary Circumstances and Condor
Condor, like all carriers, may deny compensation for extraordinary circumstances. Technical faults are generally not extraordinary under EU case law. Weather delays are more complex: a weather delay that affects only your flight may not qualify, but genuine safety-threatening conditions do.
Condor's leisure routes often connect through Frankfurt. A delay on your outbound Frankfurt leg that causes you to miss a connection may trigger EU261 compensation for the entire journey, not just the disrupted segment. See best flight compensation services for US passengers for comparison of service options, and the EU261 rights guide for full details.
