Dallas to Frankfurt Flight Delay: Lufthansa EU261 Rights

Lufthansa operates direct flights from Dallas Fort Worth to Frankfurt. As the largest European airline group, Lufthansa is fully covered by EU261 on all routes. Here is how to claim up to 600 euros for delays on the DFW to FRA route.

Lufthansa EU261 Coverage from DFW

Lufthansa is a German EU carrier. EU261 covers all Lufthansa flights, including the Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) to Frankfurt (FRA) route. A delay of 3+ hours at arrival entitles you to €600 per person (DFW to FRA is approximately 8,700 km).

Germany has a 3-year limitation period, shorter than many other EU countries. File promptly for flights from Frankfurt. For more on Lufthansa compensation, see our Lufthansa guide.

American Airlines vs. Lufthansa on the Same Route

American Airlines also operates DFW to Frankfurt. Because American is a US carrier departing from a US airport, EU261 does not apply to American's outbound flights. Only DOT rules apply. The return flight from Frankfurt is covered by EU261 for all airlines.

Same route, different rights. Lufthansa passengers from DFW can claim €600 under EU261. American Airlines passengers on the same route can only claim a DOT refund. Check your operating carrier before booking.

How to Claim

  1. 1

Visit lufthansa.com and navigate to Feedback, then EU261 Claim.

  4. 4

Allow 6 to 8 weeks for a response.

  5. 5

If rejected, escalate to Germany's Luftfahrt-Bundesamt.
