TravelStacks vs Flightright for EU261 Claims: A Side-by-Side Comparison

LC

Loren Castillo

Founder, TravelStacks

Flightright handles EU261 claims at approximately 27% and is strongest in German-speaking markets. TravelStacks charges 25% and also covers US DOT claims. Here is how to choose between them.

Quick Comparison

  • TravelStacks EU261 fee: 25% of compensation recovered

  • Flightright EU261 fee: Approximately 27% of compensation recovered

  • TravelStacks US DOT claims: $19 flat fee (unique feature, Flightright does not offer this)

  • Flightright US DOT claims: Not offered

  • TravelStacks geographic focus: US and international passengers, English-language interface

  • Flightright geographic focus: Germany, Austria, Switzerland and EU-origin flights, German and English interface

  • Best for US passengers: TravelStacks (lower EU261 fee, DOT claim coverage, English-first interface)

  • Best for German-speaking EU passengers: Flightright (native German support, strong EU enforcement presence)

Fee Comparison on Real EU261 Amounts

At the standard EU261 compensation amounts, here is what each service costs you in fees:

  • 250 EUR claim: TravelStacks keeps 62.50 EUR (you get 187.50 EUR), Flightright keeps 67.50 EUR (you get 182.50 EUR)

  • 400 EUR claim: TravelStacks keeps 100 EUR (you get 300 EUR), Flightright keeps 108 EUR (you get 292 EUR)

  • 600 EUR claim: TravelStacks keeps 150 EUR (you get 450 EUR), Flightright keeps 162 EUR (you get 438 EUR)

On a per-claim basis the difference is small. For a family of four on a transatlantic route (600 EUR each), the fee difference between 25% and 27% is about 48 EUR across all four passengers. See EU261 compensation amounts explained for the full breakdown of how the amounts are calculated.

US DOT Claims: Where TravelStacks Wins Outright

If any part of your disruption involved a US-regulated flight, TravelStacks is the only option. Flightright does not handle US DOT refund or reimbursement claims.

For a US passenger flying New York to Frankfurt to Rome with a disruption on any leg, TravelStacks can address the US domestic/DOT portion ($19 flat) and the EU261 transatlantic/EU portion (25%) in one process. Flightright can only address the EU-departing leg.

Practical example: Your Frankfurt to New York return flight is canceled on Lufthansa. You have an EU261 claim for 600 EUR (over 3,500 km) plus a potential DOT claim for rebooking costs. TravelStacks handles both. Flightright handles the EU261 only.

Geographic Enforcement Strength

Flightright has operated in the EU market since 2011 and has deep relationships with German courts and ADR bodies. For claims against German-headquartered airlines (Lufthansa, Eurowings, Condor) or claims that may need court enforcement in Germany, Flightright's local presence is a genuine advantage.

TravelStacks handles EU261 enforcement across EU markets. For most passengers, the enforcement path runs through the airline directly or through the national enforcement body of the departure country, regardless of which service you use.

For US passengers with straightforward EU261 claims (clear cancellation, no extraordinary circumstances defense, EU-departing flight), the enforcement difference between the two services is unlikely to matter. For complex cases where court action in Germany is anticipated, Flightright's home-court advantage is real.

Airline Coverage

Both services handle claims against major EU carriers: Lufthansa, Air France, KLM, British Airways, Ryanair, easyJet, Vueling, Eurowings, and others. EU261 applies to all airlines operating EU-departing flights, including non-EU carriers like American Airlines or United Airlines flying from an EU airport.

  • For claims against Lufthansa or Eurowings: both services work, Flightright has Germany-specific enforcement

  • For claims against Ryanair: both services handle Ryanair EU261 claims, which are frequently contested

  • For claims against non-EU carriers on EU-departing flights: both services cover this under EU261 rules

  • For claims against US carriers on US-departing flights: TravelStacks only

Which Service Should You Choose?

The decision is straightforward for most US passengers:

  1. 1

If you are a US-based passenger: Choose TravelStacks. Lower EU261 fee, covers your US DOT claims, and built for English-speaking passengers.

  2. 2

If your disruption involves US-regulated flights at all: Choose TravelStacks. Flightright cannot help with the US side.

  3. 3

If you are German-speaking and your claim may require court enforcement in Germany: Flightright may have a slight edge in local enforcement reach.

  4. 4

If the fee percentage is your only concern: TravelStacks at 25% is lower than Flightright at ~27%.

File your claim at TravelStacks to start the process. The filing takes about five minutes and is free until the claim succeeds.
