Breeze Airways Lost Bag Claim: Process and Payout
Breeze Airways handles bags through a lean operations team with fewer recovery options than major carriers. Here is exactly how to file a Breeze lost bag claim and what payouts to expect.
Breeze's Baggage Handling Reality
Breeze Airways operates smaller stations without full ground handling infrastructure. Most Breeze bag handling is contracted out. This means baggage tracing and recovery is slower than at major hubs, and lost bag claims may take longer to resolve.
No interline baggage recovery. If your Breeze bag was lost and you needed to rebook on another airline, Breeze will not coordinate the bag's delivery to the new flight. The bag follows Breeze's own network.
Breeze's Baggage Liability
Under 14 CFR Part 254, Breeze's domestic baggage liability is capped at $3,800 per passenger. Breeze does not offer declared value beyond this cap. International flights (to Caribbean, Mexico) fall under the Montreal Convention at 1,288 SDR (~$1,800 USD).
For declared value options at other carriers, see the airline baggage value declaration guide.
Step 1: File the PIR at the Airport
- 1
Before leaving baggage claim, find the Breeze baggage office (often at the Customer Service counter at smaller airports).
- 2
File a Property Irregularity Report (PIR) with your boarding pass and bag tag receipt.
- 3
Get the PIR reference number and bag file number.
- 4
Photograph the PIR and any damage.
- 5
Provide a delivery address for when Breeze recovers the bag.
If no Breeze agent is available at the airport, call 1-501-273-3931 immediately and file the PIR by phone. Save the call details and agent's name.
Step 2: Claim Interim Expenses While Delayed
Breeze's interim expense policy is less generous than full-service carriers. Typical reimbursements:
- ›
Toiletries and basic clothing: $50 to $100 per day.
- ›
Business attire: less consistently covered.
- ›
Prescription medications: usually covered in full.
- ›
Breeze Bucks vs cash: Breeze often offers Breeze Bucks first. Request cash.
Keep all receipts. Submit through flybreeze.com Customer Support within 7 days. See the Montreal Convention baggage limit 2026 guide, the Allegiant lost bag claim guide, and the Sun Country lost bag claim guide for comparison.
Step 3: File the Full Value Claim
After 21 days with no bag recovery, the bag is officially lost. Breeze's pattern on full value claims:
- ›
Initial offer: typically 30% to 50% of documented value.
- ›
With receipts: 60% to 80% after negotiation.
- ›
With DOT complaint: 80% to 100%.
- ›
Payment method: cash if requested; Breeze's default is Breeze Bucks.
Breeze's Exclusion List
- ›
Cash, securities, checks: zero liability.
- ›
Jewelry: excluded unless in carry-on.
- ›
Electronics: covered for loss, not always for damage.
- ›
Antiques, heirlooms: typically excluded.
- ›
Fragile items not properly packed: limited liability.
- ›
Prescription medications: usually covered for delay, sometimes for loss.
For high-value items, carry on. Breeze's $3,800 cap minus the exclusion list often leaves coverage below actual value for premium luggage.
Escalation When Breeze Underpays
- 1
Reject the offer in writing with "I reject the offer of $X. Documented replacement cost is $Y."
- 2
Attach receipts or current retail links.
- 3
DOT complaint if Breeze refuses reasonable valuation.
- 4
Credit card chargeback if Breeze refuses the refund entirely.
- 5
Small claims court for amounts above the first offer.
